Chef patron Kevin and wife Fran have given the pub a rebrand and a refurbishment including a brand new kitchen where local head chef Simon Edwards has been brought in to give the pub a fresh new food offering. The traditional inn has a warm and friendly atmosphere, wood burning fires and a bar offering cask ales and a good wine list. The kitchen team have strong relationships with local producers and suppliers and are creating British gastro and pub classics from scratch.
Simon is drawing from his background cooking at the Savoy in London and more recently at the Black Bull at Moulton to produce dishes such as rump of lamb served with a mini shepherds pie, wilted greens and red wine jus or slow roasted belly pork as well as fresh fish dishes like loin of cod with a curried prawn risotto.
The pub is popular with walkers and Sundays are busy with a traditional roast. They have a large car park, private dining/function room and conference facilities.
Recently I was part of a large filming unit that stayed at Scotch Corner… this pub was a real find! The food was excellent, everyone of the large crew enjoyed their meal, spread the word, and soon we were all coming to The Shoulder. The landlord and land lady were extremely welcoming and adapted to our large numbers at very short notice, and without taking a hit to their superb service and excellent food. Thoroughly recommend a turn off from the A1! – Review by Paul Durgan
